Electronic certified copies are a separate path
The clerk’s page also points to Georgia’s eCertification service for electronic certified copies. Use a certified copy when the recipient needs official authentication rather than a screen or search result.

Submit the state form to the Clerk of Superior Court for the county. N.C. says the certified name-based check is limited to that one county.

For a free non-certified courthouse search
Use public-access computers at a courthouse. The Judicial Branch says they can search criminal records in any county or statewide; printing may cost extra.

Do not substitute Portal for the official background-check route
N.C. allows Portal searches for case information, but its background-check guidance explicitly tells individuals doing background checks to use the county clerk’s office instead of Portal.

For your own fingerprint-based statewide record
The Judicial Branch points individuals to the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation Right to Review process; that is different again from a clerk’s single-county certified name search.
